What is Metal Foil
Metal foil is a conductive material used to form circuits on a printed board. Typically made of copper, metal foil is provided in sheets or rolls and serves as the plane of conductive material from which circuits are created. It plays a crucial role in facilitating the flow of electrical charges within the PCB.
Copper foil is the most commonly used type of metal foil in PCBs due to its high conductivity, affordability, and availability. It is deposited on the base layer of the PCB to create a continuous conductor, and circuit patterns can be formed by printing a protective layer and subsequent etching. The copper foil used in PCBs is often available in different variations, including self-adhesive, single-side, and double-side copper foil.
Metal foil, particularly copper foil, has a low rate of surface oxygen, enabling easy bonding to insulating layers. Copper foil also exhibits excellent continuity and electromagnetic shielding when combined with a metal substrate. These properties make it suitable for various applications, including electromagnetic shielding and antistatic purposes.
Furthermore, within the electronic information industry, electronic grade copper foil is widely used. This type of metal foil has a high purity level of 99.7% and is available in different thicknesses ranging from 5um to 105um. It serves as a fundamental material for the development of electronic devices such as calculators, communications equipment, lithium-ion batteries, and automotive electronic parts.
