What is Edge Bevel

Edge bevel is the process of shaping the edge of a printed circuit board at an angle or slant, particularly on edge connectors. This technique involves reducing or minimizing a square edge to create a smooth transition between the PCB and the connector.

The primary purpose of edge beveling is to facilitate easier insertion of the PCB into the connector socket. By creating a sloping edge, the connectors can smoothly slide into place, ensuring proper fitting and connection. This is especially important for edge connectors, also known as gold fingers, which are groups of pins plated in gold to enhance conductivity and corrosion resistance.

The angle of the bevel can vary, typically ranging from around 30 to 45 degrees, depending on the specific requirements of the application. The choice of bevel angle is crucial to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with the connector socket.
