What is Bevel

A bevel refers to the process of creating sloping sides or angled edges on a PCB. This is typically done on the outer edge of the PCB, particularly on edge connectors, to facilitate easier insertion into connecting devices or sockets.

Beveling reduces the square shape edges of the PCB and creates a transitional edge that allows for smoother insertion. By beveling the leading edge of the PCB, it becomes more pointed, making it easier to insert into a connecting device. The standard bevel angle is often set at 30 degrees, although other options such as 20, 45, and 60 degrees may also be available.

One common example of the use of beveling is seen in PCI cards that are inserted into PCI slots in a PC. The beveled edge of the card allows for easier insertion and ensures a secure connection between the card and the slot.
