What is Copper Clad

Copper clad is a type of laminate material, a composite material consisting of a layer of copper bonded to a reinforcing substrate, such as glass fiber or wood pulp paper. The copper layer is clad onto one or both sides of the board.

Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) provides both electrical conductivity and mechanical support. The copper layer serves as the conductor for electrical signals, allowing for the flow of current within the circuit. It also acts as a substrate for mounting electronic components.

The reinforcing substrate, such as glass fiber or wood pulp paper, provides mechanical strength and stability to the PCB. It helps prevent warping or bending under stress and supports the copper layer.

Copper Clad Laminate is widely used in various electronic applications, including radios, computers, televisions, mobile devices, and other electronic assemblies. Its versatility and electrical conductivity make it an essential material in the PCB industry.
